The word “blockchain” sounds fancy, and perhaps even intimidating, if you know nothing about it, but it’s really just a ledger keeping track of which crypto addresses holds what amount of cryptocurrency. Blockchain Megaways is Booming Games’ second effort with the licensed engine, and they seem to have taken our critique of their very underwhelming dynamic reels debut, Howling Wolves Megaways, to heart.
The math model goes to the other extreme in comparison, sporting a very solid 40,320x potential, and the somewhat exotic cryptocurrency theme is far from the rehash job they served up the first time. It doesn’t quite hold the viral potential Red Tiger unleashed in NFT Megaways perhaps, but you get a nice array of tried and tested features that will keep you entertained in all stages of the game.
Blockchain Megaways Slot Features
The low value symbols are fiat tokens like Rubles, Yen, Euros and Dollars, and they pay 1 to 1.5 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins. The 4 premium symbols are crypto tokens however, namely Doge, Litecoin, Ethereum and Bitcoin, and they pay 5 to 20 x your stake for 6-oak wins. The multicolored microchip-looking Wild holds no value of its own, but steps in for pay symbols to help complete wins.
All winning symbols are removed via the Cascading mechanic, and this makes room for new and/or existing symbols to drop down to fill the gaps. The process repeats as long as you keep winning, awarding indefinite extra wins per spin. A Max Megaways feature can trigger at random times, and this maxes out the grid height which gives you 200,704 win ways on that spin.
In addition to the regular pay symbols, you also have money symbols that land with values of 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, 20x or 50x your stake attached. You need a QR code symbol on the 6th reel to collect these cash prizes however, and this Cash Collect feature gives you the summed up value of all present money symbols.
The Mystery Symbols are inspired by the “anonymous” Guy Fawkes mask made popular by the movie V For Vendetta (2005), and these can land on any given spin. All mystery symbols in view will transform into the same randomly selected pay symbol, and they cannot turn into any special symbols.
You need 4 ‘free spins’ scatters anywhere in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and this awards 10 free spins. You’ll benefit from a progressive win multiplier during the feature, and it starts at x1 and increases by +1 per cascading win. The multiplier has no upper limit, and it does not reset between free spins. Landing 4 scatters during the feature awards +5 extra spins.
Finally, non-UK players, and anyone living in an eligible jurisdiction, may take advantage of the Bonus Buy option. This will set you back 116x your stake, and it guarantees 4 scatters to land on the spin that follows. The bonus round triggers organically 1 in 461 spins on average, which gives you something to consider.
The 200 Spins Blockchain Megaways Slot Experience
You get to see the Cash Collect feature at the beginning of the 5-minute highlights video, and we land a decent win right before we purchase the bonus round at the 2-minute mark. The feature ended on a high note, not least thanks to the mystery symbols and our racked up multiplier, and you can check it all out by hitting the play button below.
While we were far from impressed by the rehashed Megaways debut from Booming Games, Blockchain Megaways is how they should’ve entered the scene in the first place. The theme is original and trendy, and the math model is pretty much the opposite of their underwhelming Howling Wolves Megaways. The features aren’t overly innovative, fair enough, but that’s not really expected from a developer that’s just starting to dip their toes in the dynamic reels waters.
You get mystery symbols, cascades, max megaways and the cash collect feature to keep you warm in the base game, and everything is enhanced when the uncapped progressive multiplier is introduced in the bonus round. The 1 in 461 FS hit rate is very low though, but the 40,320x potential is impressive even for the Megaways genre. The 96.5 % RTP is solid as well, and there are no customizable RTP ranges like you get with so many developers these days.
